Legatoria la Carta
Our laboratory & process
A Frenchwoman living in Florence, Arielle Benozio created her bookbinding laboratory in 2007. The idea was to enhance the production of traditional Florentine notebooks by modernizing colors and mixing them with other materials, while remaining an all handmade production and Italian binding workshop.
Step 1
Using a bath filled with water and glue, the marbled paper is made by throwing colors in it.
Step 2
One by one, the colors are thrown on the bath, usually beginning with the darkest and ending with the fairest.
Step 3
Then, we delicately put a sheet of paper on the surface of the bath...
... and, we pull the sheet out of the bath.
Step 4
All that's left to do is to let the sheet of paper dry before using it to make our covers !
